Registration with BDO - does waste transport require it?
Many entrepreneurs, above all, do not realise that their activities require registration with BDO. This applies not only to companies that generate waste, but also to those that transport it. Among some hauliers, who have been operating on the market for many years, there is unfortunately still a belief that the decision of the district governor is still valid. However, lack of awareness of the obligation to register with the BDO can lead to unintentional violations of the law. It is worth keep up to date with legislation and check whether the activity you are carrying out requires registration.
Failure to obtain a BDO registration not only results in financial penalties, but can also cause problems with contractors. Transport companies often sign contracts for the transportation of waste, and the lack of registration with the BDO prevents such services from being carried out legally. For this reason, it is better to make sure that the activity has been correctly reported to the register.
Incomplete or incorrect data in the registration application
When filling in the registration application, entrepreneurs often make mistakes that can lead to the rejection of the application or significantly prolong the registration process. Particular attention should be paid to correctly completing all the required fields and checking that the company data is correct.
Lack of required attachments is another cause of problems. Carriers often forget to attach documents proving the legality of the activity, resulting in the need to resubmit the application. Attention to detail in this area can significantly reduce the time it takes to obtain an entry.
Errors in transport documentation
Transporting waste requires the possession of the relevant transport documents, such as the Waste Transfer Note (KPO). Many transport companies incorrectly complete these documents or forget to issue them, which can result in inspections and sanctions.
It is also important that the transport documentation is consistent with the entry in the BDO. The data in the KPO must reflect the actual type and quantity of waste transported. In case of discrepancies, the control authorities may impose penalties or stop the transport.
Failure to notify waste shipments in the BDO system
Every transport of waste must be declared in the BDO system before the transport begins. Many hauliers forget this obligation or make the notification too late, which can result in problems during roadside checks.
Failure to notify transport may lead to a situation where transport is considered illegal. In extreme cases, this can result in the vehicle being stopped and having to explain itself at an environmental inspection. Regular monitoring of notifications in the BDO system avoids such situations.
No update of data in BDO system
Once registered with BDO, businesses are required to update their data regularly. If a company changes its registered office, expands its activities or changes the type of waste transported, it must update its information in the system immediately. Failure to do so may result in legal consequences and may also hinder transport when it becomes apparent at loading that the particular waste code to be taken up is not on the list of wastes the company is allowed to haul.
Neglecting to update data can therefore hinder the company's day-to-day operations. In the event of an audit, hauliers may be asked to confirm that their business complies with the BDO entry. If the data in the system is out of date, this may result in additional explanations and potential sanctions.
No registration number on documents
Businesses registered with BDO are required to include a registration number on documents relating to their business. The absence of this number can lead to sanctions and also make it difficult to work with contractors who require full compliance documentation.
The BDO number should appear on invoices, contracts, transport documents and all official letters relating to waste shipments. Failure to comply with this rule may result in administrative penalties, so it is worth ensuring that all documents are correctly marked.
Summary
Registration with the BDO for waste transport requires accuracy and knowledge of the regulations. It is essential and failure to do so can lead to serious financial consequences. Avoiding registration errors, regularly updating data and properly defining activities will avoid legal and operational problems. In addition, complying with the obligation to report transports to BDO and having complete transport documentation significantly increases the safety of operations.
